Media Eye News Bureau: A brilliant century by Manjot Kalra, backed up by able bowling performances by Ishan Porel, Shiva Singh, Ankul Roy and Kamlesh Nagarkoti sealed the deal for the Indian side in the ICC U-19 World Cup final at the Bay Oval on Saturday.
Promising opener Manjot Kalra played a starring role with an unbeaten century as India overpowered Australia by eight wickets in the final to claim the ICC U19 World Cup for a record fourth time.
Australia, who elected to bat after winning the toss, were bowled out for an under-par 216 in 47.2 overs. The openers were dispatched back to the pavillion fairly quickly by Ishan Porel and save for Jonathan Merlo's solid 76, the Australian side fell like a house of cards.
The Indian team put in a clinical batting display with Manjot Kalra smashing an unbeaten 101 off 102 balls.
Kalra was adjudged the man of the match while compatriot Shubman Gill took home the player of the tournament award. "Great feeling. Enjoyed a lot. Conditions were very good. It was a flat wicket to bat on. In the team, it's been a great environment," an overjoyed Kalra told the media after the final.
India thus became the first nation to win the ICC U19 World Cup four times. They had earlier won the title in 2000, 2008 and 2012.
