02:11 pm New Delhi: Amid the power tussle, Shiv Sena raised voice on Monday against its former alliance partner BJP on the first day of Parliament's winter session, seeking immediate relief for farmers hit by unseasonal rains in parts of Maharashtra. Sena's stand-off with the BJP was evident in the lower house as its leaders were the first to demonstrate against the government and disturb the proceedings among other opposition parties. Both the Sena and the BJP had contested the elections to the Maharashtra Assembly together, but failed to reach a power-sharing arrangement which led to the implementation of the state rule of the President.
10:11 am Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde on Monday took oath as the 47th Chief Justice of India. Justice Bobde, 63, succeeds Justice Ranjan Gogoi who retired on Sunday.
11:11 pm Mumbai: The Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari today (16 Nov) took stock of the damage to crops caused by unseasonal rains during October - November 2019 and announced the financial relief to the affected farmers. A relief of Rs.8,000/- per hectare up to 2 hectare for agricultural Kharif crops and a relief of Rs.18,000/- per hectare up to 2 hectares for horticulture/ perennial crops was announced today. In addition to above relief package, the Governor further announced exemption of land revenue to the affected area and exemption of examination fee of school and colleges to the wards of farmers whose crops suffered damages. The Governor also directed the state administration to disburse relief immediately

09:11 am The Shiv Sena, who walked out at the core of Modi government this week, will remain in the Rajya Sabha opposition benches, party spokesman Sanjay Raut said."We have to learn that two Shiv Sena MPs ' seating arrangement in the parliament has changed," he said. Raut is one of the upper house's three Shiv Sena MPs. With the winter session of parliament beginning on Monday, Raut said the Sena will not attend the meeting of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance or NDA ahead of it.
03:11 pm Indian Navy's MiG-29 K fighter jet trainer crashed on Saturday on his way to a training mission from Goa. As the pilots managed to eject safely before the crash occurred, no casualties were reported from the incident. The fighter aircraft crashed soon after it took off from INS HANSA at Dabolim in Goa. Captain M Sheokhand and Lieutenant Commander Deepak Yadav are the pilots who managed to eject safely.
10:11 am The Temple of Lord Ayappa in Kerala is set to open for the Mandala Pooja festival today. No protection will be given to women. Kerala Devaswom Board Minister K Surendran said on Friday, prior to the opening of the Sabarimala Temple, the state government will not provide protection to any woman visiting the temple and those needing protection must receive a Supreme Court order. The top court decided to set up a larger bench to re-examine religious issues, including those that emerged from its earlier decision that lifted a centuries-old ban on menstruating-age women visiting the shrine.
