New Delhi: Congress divided India on religious lines, Home Minister Amit Shah charged today as he rejected the opposition's contention that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill runs counter to the constitutional principles of equality and secularism. The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill would not have been needed if religion-based division had not been allowed by Congress. It was Congress that divided the country on religious lines, not us, "shouted Amit Shah as members of Congress said the proposed law was against Muslims and resisted the bill's submission in the Lok Sabha. The proposed law is not a violation of any article of the constitution and made a "reasonable classification", said the Home Minister, insisting that it was "not even 0.001 per cent" against India's minorities.
