New Delhi: The Supreme Court issued a notice to the Centre seeking it to respond to the 60 pleas calling into question the legal validity of the new law on citizenship. A three-judge high court bench led by India's Chief Justice SA Bobde also refused to stay enforcing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, or CAA, in a brief hearing this morning, saying: "We'll have to see if the Act is to be held." The three-member bench, which includes Justices BR Gavai and Surya Kant – has set January 22 as the next date of hearing.
