Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor once again pitched for holding fresh elections for Congress Working Committee (CWC) as well as for Congress President. Tharoor tweeted: “I believe a revived @INCIndia is indispensable to provide a national alternative to the divisive policies of the BJP. This is why the current perception of drift must be ended.”

Reacting to the tweet Congress said that CWC is the highest decision making body in the party and Sonia Gandhi is its interim president. Senior party leader Anand Sharma had on Friday denied that Congress was facing leadership crisis. Some in the Congress believe that Rahul Gandhi may come back as President in April.

Meanwhile another party leader said that the party should not be measured by its Delhi debacle where it failed to win a single seat in the state elections. He said that Congress has won many elections and also won in some states after Lok Sabha election failures. Tharoor on his part continued to be firm by renewing his appeal to the CWC to hold fresh elections and elect a new President to infuse fresh enthusiasm among party cadres.

Many in the Congress have opined that the party should move beyond the Gandhi family and find some new alternatives.
