Aizawl: At least 8 people, including 3 women, have been arrested for possessing heroin and ganja (cannabis) worth over Rs 13.3 lakh, Mizoram police said.
The police said that Special Narcotics Squad and CID (Special Branch) of state police seized 369.56 grams of heroin during a joint operation at Hringlangtlang village in Champhai district of Mizoram bordering Myanmar and arrested three persons, including a woman on Saturday. The contraband worth Rs 13 lakh in the local market was concealed in soap cases, they said.
Three persons identified as Lalrinmuani, 23, and Vanlalpeka, 19, both from Aizawl and Emanuela, 39, a resident of Champhai’s Zotlang were arrested in connection with the seizure. They were booked under the relevant section of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
In another seizure, volunteers of Supply Reduction Service (SRS), a drug squad constituted by Central Young Mizo Association(CYMA), seized substantial grams of heroin and apprehended two persons identified as Tlangrosiama,38, and Roluahkunga,39, both from Tuirial village near Aizawl on Saturday night, CYMA president Vanlalruata said.
The SRS volunteers also held three people including two women for possessing 12 kg of ganja (cannabis) at Sesawng village, about 40 km from here on Saturday night. The accused identified as Ralrelvung, Ramthazo and Lalrohluna were handed over to excise and narcotics department officials, along with Tlangrosiama and Roluahkunga on the same night, Vanlalruata said.
