Mumbai: Today, a fifth Independent MLA extended support to the Shiv Sena, raising the tally of the party to 61, sources say. The Sena won 56 seats in Maharashtra's recently concluded assembly elections. It is expected that the upward movement of numbers will give power to its demand for a 50:50 division for a turn at the post of the chief minister, over which a bitter tussle with ally BJP is on.

Four of the 15 Independent candidates had previously declared support for Shiv Sena. Today, the MLA from the Nevasa constituency, Shankarrao Gadakh, met with Uddhav Thackeray at his Mumbai residence in Matoshree to declare his support.
