Anil Ambani Skips ED Summons Again, Offers Virtual Appearance Amid Ongoing Probe Into Reliance ADAG

New Delhi: Reliance ADAG Group Chairman Anil D. Ambani has once again skipped the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons for a second round of questioning at the agency’s Delhi headquarters on Friday. Ambani has expressed willingness to join the investigation only through virtual means, even as the ED continues its probe into financial dealings linked to the Reliance ADAG Group.

Anil Ambani will completely cooperate with ED on all topics and is willing to appear virtually, according to a statement released by the business on his behalf.

ED sources claim that they have not yet received any such correspondence from Anil Ambani or his business.

Anil Ambani’s statement stated that “ED summons to Anil D. Ambani relate to a FEMA inquiry and not to any matter under the PMLA.”

“Anil D. Ambani is not a member of the Board of Reliance Infrastructure. He served the company for about fifteen years, from April 2007 to March 2022, only as a non-executive director, and was never involved in the day-to-day management of the company,” the statement added.

On November 14, Anil Ambani was called back by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to be questioned in connection with the money laundering investigation against the conglomerate. In August, he was subjected to a torturous nine-hour interrogation at ED headquarters for an alleged loan fraud case of Rs 17,000 crore.

The development follows the ED’s temporary attachment of more than 132 acres of land valued at Rs 4,462.81 crores in Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City, Navi Mumbai, on Monday, in accordance with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

In the bank fraud cases of Reliance Communications Ltd. (RCOM), Reliance Commercial Finance Ltd, and Reliance Home Finance Ltd, the ED had already seized 42 assets valued at more than Rs 3,083 crores.

“The total attachment in these cases stands at over Rs 7,545 crores. ED is actively pursuing perpetrators of financial crime and is committed to restituting the proceeds of crime to their rightful claimants,” the statement said.

Based on the CBI’s FIR under sections 120-B, 406, and 420 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, and section 13(2) read with section 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1989, ED had opened an inquiry against RCOM, Anil Ambani, and others.
