New Delhi: The Delhi Police have stepped up their investigation into the car blast near the Red Fort, revealing critical facts from CCTV footage that tracked the suspect vehicle’s movements hours before the explosion.
According to Delhi Police sources, CCTV evidence shows that the white i20 car was parked near the Red Fort parking area around 3:19 p.m., where it remained for about three hours before leaving at 6:48 p.m.
According to police officials, the vehicle was seen exiting the parking lot during a period of high crowd activity.
The video is being extensively reviewed to discover who brought the vehicle to the parking lot, who entered or exited it, and who drove it away. Investigators are also tracing the vehicle’s entire itinerary, from its origin to the Red Fort parking lot and then to the traffic signal just in front of the Red Fort.
Police officials stated that more than 100 CCTV recordings, including footage from surrounding roads and parking toll plazas, are being analysed to plot the vehicle’s route and identify the culprit. “The suspect appears to be alone in the footage,” Delhi Police sources stated, adding that the route to Daryaganj is currently being investigated.
Investigators will also question the parking attendant on duty at the time to learn more about the vehicle’s arrival and departure.
A case has been filed under UAPA Sections 16 and 18, the Explosives Act, and many sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Meanwhile, as part of the increased security measures, the Delhi Police have closed Gates 1 and 4 of the Lal Qila Metro Station for public access due to continuing security activities in the region.
The Delhi Police are still piecing together the chain of events leading up to the explosion, underlining that all conceivable angles are being investigated.
