Thane: Senior Shiv Sena leader Sharmila Pimpalkar assumed office as the Mayor of Thane in 2026. A former municipal corporator for Ward No. 20 (2017–2022), she brings extensive experience in civic administration to her new role.
In recognition of her public service, she was honoured with the Corona Warrior Award (2021–2022) for her contribution during the COVID‑19 pandemic and later received the Outstanding Citizen Award in 2025. Her appointment as mayor is expected to further strengthen civic governance and public welfare initiatives in Thane.
