Mumbai: The World Malayalee Federation (WMF), a global network of Malayalis, hosted an important meeting on Monday at Hotel Ramada in Mahape, Navi Mumbai, to set up its Maharashtra State Council. The meeting, led by Dr. Oommen David, President of WMF, brought together 37 individuals from Mumbai’s social and cultural sectors.

Adding prominence to the event was Francis Daniel, WMF’s Asia Vice President, who travelled from Chennai to participate. The meeting’s agenda highlighted WMF’s objectives of fostering unity, supporting development, and promoting cultural initiatives for the Malayalee community. Discussions culminated in the announcement of the proposed office bearers for the new council.

Asia Region Vice President Francis Daniel elaborated on the federation’s global activities and its involvement in social service, while Dominic Paul spoke about WMF’s objectives and mission.

During the meeting, an ad-hoc committee for WMF’s Maharashtra Council was initially selected. Dr. Oommen David was appointed as the convener of the organisation, while prominent industrialist and social worker Dr. Roy John Mathew was named President. Other key positions were filled as follows: Dr. Bijoy Kutty and Sindhu Nair as Vice Presidents, Dominic Paul as Secretary, and N.T. Pillai and Rakhee Sunil as Joint Secretaries, Vijay Kumar as Treasurer, and  Nikhil Nair and Laiji Varghese as Coordinators.

The organisation’s bylaws were officially handed over to Dr. Oommen David by Asia Region Vice President Francis Daniel, who also honoured him. Rakhee Sunil expressed gratitude to all attendees for their participation. NT Pilla and Dr. Umman David are the primary initiators of this association in Mumbai. Senior journalists Premlal, Murali, and Nisha Nair were also present at the event.

WMF has presence in 166 countries

WMF, founded on September 21, 2016, under the leadership of Dr. Prince Pallikunnel, has grown into a global network with a presence in 166 countries and 229 branches. Accredited by Norka Roots, a Kerala Government initiative to address the concerns of Non-Resident Keralites (NRKs), WMF has become a key organization connecting Malayalis worldwide.

Headquartered in Vienna, Austria, and led globally by Dr. J. Ratnakumar from Oman, WMF aims to unite Malayalees and support their socio-cultural development. The Maharashtra State Council is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing WMF’s initiatives and bringing together the local community to achieve shared goals.
