Mumbai: A Kathakali music programme was conducted by Liota – Lavanya institute of Traditional Arts, Mumbai in coordination with Srutilaya Fine Arts, Mumbai during the recent Vijayadasami celebrations.

Kathakali music students Ravindra Varier & Muralidharan started the programme by rendering Vandana slokam & “Ajitha Hare” a famous Padam in Sree Raagam from Kuchelavrutham.

The famous singers Nedumbally Krishnamohan & Kottakal Ranjith Varier sang few kathakali padams in the 2nd Liota – Unwinding concert series of programmes as variety of songs with different ragaas. Few songs to mention from the renderings – “ Naishadhanivan thaano “ in Mukhari raagam, “Vasa vasa soothaa” in Kaapi ragam were from the famous classic Nalacharitha – written by Sree Unnaayi Varier & songs from other kathakali stories were well accepted & enjoyed by the audience. The percussion was brilliantly supported by Anil Pothuval on Chenda, Nelluvai Parameswaran on Maddalam & Rahul Nair on Edayka respectively.

Liota plans more concerts and dance programmes in near future also among art connoisseurs Lavanya institute is managed by famous artists: Bharatnatyam dancer Ms. Shashi Ramesh & singer Shivaprasad. Admission of new students is still in process for classical & various film dances, classical & kathakali music in the institute which is located at Vidyavihar west in Mumbai suburb.
