Bombay Keraleeya samaj is the oldest Keralite charity institution in Mumbai and its Headquarters in Matunga. BKS has been distributing hundreds of food packets, fruits, buttermilk, and packed drinking water to policemen on duty from Mankurd to Matunga in Mumbai. Many among the Mumbai police have sacrificed their lives and many others are putting themselves at risk to serve the public during the pandemic period.

From 5th May 2021, BKS has been providing free food packages to individuals living in the streets of Matunga, Wadala, Koliwada, and Chembur in Mumbai under the supervision of the governing body of BKS. (President Suresh Kumar and Secretary Premrajan Nambiar and other representatives) are overseeing the entire operations.

Established in 1930, BKS started its Ayurveda dispensary in 1942 and set up branches at Dadar in 1955, Goregaon in 1966, and Mulund in 1970. BKS also provides free consultation for patients at these clinics. The samajam actively doing Kerala style Ayurvedic treatment in Mumbai, hosts Art and culture activities and literary events, conducts many charity activities throughout the year, and has also set up a free reading room and library.

As a pioneer philanthropic organization, BKS has been at the forefront during all-natural calamities such as earthquakes, floods, pandemics, and so on. It had sent 14 trucks laden with relief materials to Kerala when the state was badly hit by a flood in 2018. It had donated ₹ 50,000 to Maharashtra chief minister’s relief fund for helping victims of the earthquake, distributed over 1,000 food packets to the needy, and around 10,000 masks for slum dwellers besides distributing food grains to the poor.
