Mumbai: Maharashtra Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan flagged off the ‘Elite’ segment of the Tata Mumbai Marathon by firing from a sports gun from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai on Sunday.

Notably, Lyricist Gulzar, known for his poetic prowess, took part in the senior citizens’ race, adding a unique charm to the event.

The Governor also flagged off the ‘Champions with Disabilities’ race for the differently abled and the’ Senior Citizens’ race.

The event was graced by the presence of several dignitaries, including State Minority and Waqf Minister Dattatraya Bharane, Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, wife of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis – Amruta Fadnavis, and event organisers Anil Singh and Vivek Singh.

According to the organisers, an impressive 60,000 people, a testament to the scale and significance of the event, participated in this year’s marathon.

Notably, the Mumbai Marathon is an annual international marathon held in Mumbai on the third Sunday of January every year. It is the largest marathon in Asia as well as the largest mass-participation sporting event on the continent.
