Vishu- Kerala new year day is celebrated on April 14. Malayalees celebrate this day by keeping Vishu Kani. This is Kerala's harvest festival marks the first day of the month Medam, the ninth month in the solar calendar followed in Kerala. The items kept in Vishu Kani includes rice, golden lemon, golden cucumber, coconut cut open, jack fruit, betel leaves, areca nut, golden yellow Konna flowers. All these kept in front of a mirror. Devotees believe if they see the reflection of these items in the morning it will bring peace and prosperity.

On this day Tamilians celebrate their New year called “Puthandu”. The festival date is set with the solar cycle of the Hindu calendar, as the first day of the Tamil month Chithirai.

Due to government restrictions, both the festivals will be celebrated "At Home", as precautionary measures.
