Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh): On the occasion of Hartalika Teej, a stream of married women gathered on the banks of the river Ganga –Sangam—of Prayagraj, the city of religion and faith, right from Brahma Muhurta (sunrise). Married women took a dip in faith and worshipped Shiva and Parvati. They will observe a one-day fast by abstaining from food and water for the long life of their husbands and (for) a happy married life.
This event signifies the penance made by goddess Parvati to receive Shiva as her husband.
