Mumbai: A huge fire broke out at 6:30 a.m. Friday at the Times Tower building in Mumbai’s Lower Parel. The flames have been contained, and there are no reports of any casualties.
After four hours of relentless firefighting, authorities declared the blaze at the 14-storey building had been doused.
The fire brigade declared it a level 2 (major) fire and sent eight fire engines and other fire-fighting vehicles to the scene.
According to the civic officials, the fire started in the electrical duct and was confined between the seventh and third floors of the building. “Five fire engines and seven jumbo tankers were put into operation,” the officials said.
Authorities at ground zero said firefighters used “chisel and hammer” to break the locks on the doors and enter the commercial building to battle the fire.
The Kamala Mills compound has witnessed many major fires and is situated next to the Parkside residential building.
According to the Economic Times, residents of Parkside described the experience as ‘terrifying’ as they watched plumes of flame and smoke rising dangerously close to their homes.
The residents, showing remarkable resilience, immediately put their security staff into action, who tried to control the blaze with their building’s firefighting equipment before the firefighters arrived.
One resident claimed, “Our emergency team used (our) hose pipes before the fire brigade could reach the spot.”
