New Delhi: Supreme Court ordered status quo at the site until October 21, when the case will be taken up by the Court. There will be no more tree-cutting and no construction activity at Aarey until the next hearing, said the court. Amid Dussehra holidays, the Supreme Court took up the case after a group of law students wrote to India's Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi asking him to urgently stop tree cutting for a subway car-shed at Aarey Colony. Although the court ordered status quo, which would mean no activity, a lawyer from the Maharashtra government said that there was no bar on construction in the patch already cleared.
