On Thursday night, police said, a Muslim League employee was hacked to death in Tanur in the Malappuram district of Kerala. The Muslim League, the Congress-led United Democratic Front's second largest ally, allegedly supported the attack by CPI(M) workers. Muslim League worker M Ishaq (36) has been brutalized and assaulted as he returned from a local mosque after prayers, according to police. He was rushed to the hospital, but he eventually succumbed to his stab wounds. Police said the region was seeing violence between the two parties ' employees and they believe that this was a consequence of the latest killing. On Friday, the Muslim League called for a shutdown in Malappuram and the police were monitoring the area strictly. A few months after repeated incidents of political violence in coastal areas of Malappuram, police had called for a peace conference. After that, the fights subsided a little. Two months ago, in an attack, two CPI(M) workers were wounded and the party claimed that League members were behind this. Last month, police said, a regional leader's CPI(M) car was also torched .
