JD(U) Mokama Candidate Anant Singh Arrested for Murder of Jan Suraaj Worker Ahead of Bihar Elections

New Delhi: In a significant pre-election development, police have arrested Anant Singh, the JD(U) candidate from Mokama, in connection with the murder of Dularchand Yadav, a worker for Jan Suraaj.

The arrest, confirmed by Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya Sharma, has sent shockwaves through the political circles of Bihar, occurring just days before the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections scheduled for November 6.

According to officials, the incident took place on Thursday, October 30, near Khushhal Chak in Mokama. Piyush Priyadarshi, also known as Lallu Mukhiya and a candidate from the Jan Suraaj Party, was campaigning alongside his supporters, including 75-year-old Dularchand Yadav, a local strongman and former RJD leader. At the same time, Anant Singh and his supporters were reportedly passing through the same area.

An argument between the two groups quickly escalated into a violent confrontation, involving stone pelting and physical clashes. In the chaos, Dularchand Yadav sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead shortly thereafter.

Following his death, the region descended into tension, prompting the authorities to deploy a heavy police presence to prevent further escalation.

Violence erupted the following day when the convoy of RJD candidate Veena Devi, the wife of former MP Surajbhan Singh, came under attack in the Pandarak area. Eyewitnesses reported that unidentified assailants surrounded her convoy, throwing stones and damaging several vehicles, which resulted in at least one person being injured.

Anant Singh, 58, is no stranger to controversy, having faced multiple criminal cases over the years. His arrest just before the polling has added a new complication to the already tense political contest in Mokama, a constituency known for its political muscle and factional rivalries.

Further investigations are underway, and additional arrests may follow as authorities continue to look into the violent clashes that have disrupted the campaign leading up to the Bihar elections.
