Raja Raghuvanshi Murder Case: Victim's Mother Questions Sonam's Conduct, Demands Justice

Indore: The mother of Raja Raghuvanshi, the Indore businessman killed during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, said the allegations against Sonam Raghuvanshi should not be dismissed and reiterated the family’s demand for justice in the high-profile murder case.

This comes as Sonam Raghuvanshi spoke to media for the first time and presented her side of the story after being out on bail.

Responding to allegations made by Raja’s brother that she had fled to Nepal after misleading the police, Sonam said the claims were false and merely rumours. She also disclosed where she is currently staying and why she will not return to Indore for the time being.

Speaking to IANS, Raja’s mother, Uma Raghuvanshi, said the accusations against Sonam were not fabricated and stemmed from the serious charges she faces in the case.

“The allegations are neither baseless nor false. They are being made because Sonam is an accused in a murder case. If she was innocent, then why did she not appear before the court? She has not attended the court proceedings even once,” Uma Raghuvanshi said.

Expressing disappointment over Sonam’s public appearances, she alleged that there appeared to be no remorse on her part.

“She is moving around freely, and that is not right. She does not seem to regret what has happened. We are only asking for justice,” she said.

Uma also criticised Sonam’s family, claiming they had strong faith in Tantrics and questioning why they had agreed to the marriage if they held such beliefs.

“If they believed so strongly in such practices, why did they marry their daughter to my son? Why was my son’s life taken away? Today, all we want is justice,” she added.

The case dates back to May 2025, when Raja Raghuvanshi, the son of a prominent transport businessman from Indore, married Sonam. Shortly after their wedding, the couple travelled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon.

The couple reportedly went missing on May 23, 2025. Following an extensive search operation, Raja’s decomposed body was recovered from a deep gorge in Meghalaya on June 3.

Investigators later claimed to have uncovered evidence suggesting Sonam’s involvement in a conspiracy to murder her husband. Although a lower court granted her conditional bail, citing certain technical shortcomings in the investigation, Meghalaya Police challenged the order in the High Court and sought cancellation of the bail. Legal proceedings in the matter are currently underway.
