Jammu, One policeman was killed and another was critically injured when militants attacked a police party in J&K's Kishtwar district on Monday.

The police said a rape accused identified as Ashiq Hussain was recently released from Kishtwar jail in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

"He is involved in attacking the police party with axes in far off Dachan area after the police party had gone to a higher reach to get better mobile phone signal. One special police officer (SPO) was killed and another policeman was critically injured in the attack. The attackers have decamped with the service rifles of the police personnel," the police said.

Reinforcements have been rushed to the spot to trace the assailants.
