Habra:A gang of five robbers barred a West Bengal civil service officer's official residence in the North 24 district of Parganas early on Friday morning and pillaged valuables after tying up the bureaucrat and his family. The robbery took place in Habra, about 50 km from Kolkata in Subhro Nandy's residence, the Habra 1 community block development officer. Inside the local administration office complex, the criminals took cash, jewelry and some mobile phones from Nandy's home. The price of the jewelry and phones was around Rs 100,000. Police were told by the BDO that four of them spoke in Hindi. The incident created a buzz in the region with local people saying the BDO's official quarters robbery showed criminals were not afraid of the law. "We asked the police to act quickly. Senior officers are looking into this, "said Chaitali Chakraborty, magistrate of the district of North 24 Parganas.
