Shirdi, Maharashtra: The three-day festival of Guru Purnima has started today in Shirdi, Maharashtra. The Sai Baba Samadhi Mandir premises echoed with the chants of devotees. This morning, a procession of the statue of Shri Sai Baba was taken out. Shri Sai Baba Sansthan CEO Goraksh Gadhilkar and administrative officials were present in this procession. Special worship, abhishek, kirtan and discourse have been organised by the temple administration. Police, volunteers and the temple trust team are engaged in conducting the entire event smoothly. Guru Purnima is a festival observed by Hindus, Jains, and Buddhists to honour and express gratitude towards their spiritual teachers and mentors. It falls on the full moon day (Purnima) in the Hindu month of Ashadha (June-July). The day is also known as Vyasa Purnima, as it marks the birth anniversary of Veda Vyasa, the sage who compiled the Vedas and wrote the Mahabharata. This year, Guru Purnima falls on July 10.
