CBSE to open a centre in Dubai

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will reportedly open a centre in Dubai soon to cater to Indian schools in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
India's Minister for Human Resource Development M.M. Pallam Raju announced via Skype at a conference of CBSE schools at the Indian High School in Dubai Wednesday that the centre would come up shortly, the Gulf News reported.
According to the report, the centre will cater to specific needs of CBSE schools in the region and coordinate with the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) for timely availability of textbooks.
CBSE chairman Vineet Joshi told the media that the centre would be ready in a couple of months.
“The biggest challenge facing CBSE schools in the region is the increasing number of students – there are 60,000 students between grades nine and 12 alone – and the huge responsibility it calls for. The regional centre will help deal with specific issues concerning them,” Joshi was quoted as saying.
The UAE is home to around two million expatriate Indians.
