No fee for Delhi SC/ST college student

Delhi University is planning to waive off fee structure for SC/ST students on an introductory means –based system from this year onwards and detailed proposal is just going through preliminary stages, stated Alka Sharma, registrar of the university.
The proposal will be either passed by Executive Committee or by Vice-Chancellor applying the emergency powers bestowed upon him.
SC/ST Teacher’s Association anyway demanded that not only SC/ST but all students representing weaker section of the society will be brought under this proposal. President of the association commented that authorities have given the nod and a committee will be established forworking out the process smoothly.
A major concern evolving the four year undergraduate programme was the financial strain it will put on additionally on children who are struggling to pay bills already.
Tuition fee along with development fee have been already promised by officials to waive off soon according to recent public statements. Anyway, a part of students as well as DU staff describe the whole process as nothing but as “sop”. Alone the decision of university does not matter and colleges also have a word of final say.
This can be considered as a part of university’s policy related to allurement. If they had any concern for the fee of SC/ST students they should have implemented it much earlier.
