Anupam Kher Says ‘RIP’ to Critics Calling ‘Dhurandhar’ a Propaganda Film

Mumbai: Veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher has addressed the controversy surrounding the “Dhurandhar” franchise being labelled as propaganda, sharing his views amid the ongoing debate over the film’s narrative.

He has also said RIP to those calling the film a propaganda movie.

The actor urges audiences and critics alike to shift focus towards celebrating cinema rather than criticising it.

Speaking to IANS and other media present at a recent event, the actor dismissed such criticism, stating that too much importance is being given to those making these claims.

He said, “I think we should say rest in peace, RIP to people who are calling films propaganda. We are putting too much energy into them. They are redundant, they are irrelevant.”

Kher further emphasised that the success of a film ultimately lies in the hands of the audience, and not in the narratives built around it.

He called for recognition of films that have resonated with viewers, and stated that it would be a better practice rather than engaging with detractors.

“Let’s celebrate the success of The Kashmir Files, let’s celebrate the success of *Durandar*. People are not idiots that they will go for a 12 o’clock show and make it full house. People go to watch a film because they like it,” he added.

The actor’s remarks come amid continuing conversations in the film industry about the intent and interpretation of Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar.

However, Kher also maintained that audiences are smart and wise enough to make their own choices, reinforcing his belief that box office success is a reflection of genuine public interest.

The film has been receiving a strong response from audiences, with its sequel, ‘Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge’, further building on its success.

The first instalment was released in December, and Dhurandhar 2 was released on the 19th of March.

The movie stars Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, Rakesh Bedi, and others.
