Kerala to have regulatory body for movie industry

The state government has planned to form a regulatory body to manage Mollywood – the Kerala film industry. The union government has accepted its proposal.

Thiruvanchor Radakrishnan, the state minister for Forest, Environment, Transport, Sports & Cinema, informed that the matter would be presented in the next assembly session for its approval.

The regulatory body would look into the disputes among the existing six different organizations that are currently active in the state film industry and resolve contentious issues.

The government also aims to amend the existing law drafted in 1958 which has become redundant now. The decision came in the wake of increased clashes between the organizations.

Meanwhile, the Central government has allowed Kerala film Industry to preserve Malayalam films in digital formats.

‘Malayalam films will be the first In India to be preserved in digital form,’ the minister said.
