Belying critic’s observations, Salman Khan-starrer, ‘Kick’ that released on the eve of festival Eid last Friday has raked in moolah worth over Rs 80 crore, making it the second highest pre-Eid opening at the box office.
Sallu’s previous movie, 'Ek Tha Tiger', holds the distinction of ringing in the highest collection; it raked in Rs 100 crore after its pre-Eid opening in 2012.
A prominent Bollywood trade analyst observed, "'Ek Tha Tiger' had had opened on August 15 which was a public holiday while 'Kick' released on a regular Friday."
Surprisingly, Salman's recent release, Jai Ho’ in January this year had bagged only around Rs 60 crore in its first weekend.
Another trade analyst opines, 'Kick' has broken the myth that films fare poor business during the holy month of Ramzaan. "Now with Eid on Tuesday and baasi Eid on Wednesday, the film is on its way to set new records," he says.
Contradicting observations, the film has gradually started receiving a good response. According to a film distributor, “Kick has the potential to make between Rs 250 crore to Rs 300 crore, but thanks to the mixed reactions, I can now see it touching Rs 200 crore. The film has a clear two-week run and this will work in its favour."
