Mumbai: First, he aspired to be a sportsman, and then, he wanted to serve in the army, but somewhere along the way, he realised his calling to become an actor. Meet Kesav Binoy Kiron, the Malayalam actor who recently won the Jury’s Choice Award for Best Debutant for his role in “Girls Will Be Girls.” The award was introduced by a popular news channel.
Kesav was born in Kerala and grew up in Mumbai and Malaysia. Though he studied computer science in Jaipur, deep within his heart, he wanted to be an actor. While in college, he actively participated in theatre activities and starred in various (college) plays.
However, the surprise breakthrough in films came with ‘Girls Will Be Girls’. Interestingly, clueless about the audition process, he had sent across some vacation photos that clicked with the filmmakers, who called him for the actual (screen) test.
According to Filmfare, the youngster draws deep inspiration from Shah Rukh Khan, especially admiring the depth and versatility of his characters, believing there’s a wealth of wisdom to be gained from the iconic star’s journey. He also looks up to the late Irrfan Khan for his quiet brilliance, finds intensity in Jaideep Ahlawat’s craft, respects Ali Fazal’s range, and is inspired by Richa Chadha’s fearless choices and powerful presence.
Kesav also portrayed a role in the western film, ‘Saanvi’, where he played an Indian IT worker who was secretly addicted to gambling. It was a learning process, as during the filming, he worked with international actors from the US and learned much about various acting methods.
His is a journey shaped by bold choices and a willingness to embrace the unknown. In addition, driven by a deep passion for acting, a steadily ascending career, and an ever-evolving craft, the young actor is looking to the future with excitement and purpose.
