Fitness has evolved, outdoor training in demand, says trainer

Nupur Shikhare, fitness consultant and personal trainer to actress Sushmita Sen, filmmaker Kiran Rao and superstar Aamir Khan, says awareness about various exercises has increased and more and more people are taking to outdoor training.
The former national level tennis player has turned into a fitness expert.
"Fitness has evolved a lot in the last few years. People are aware of different kind of workouts and there are a lot of options to choose from," Shikhare, who believes that workouts are not only about losing weight, but also to get a good well-toned body, told IANS.
"I've noticed that a lot of people these days prefer outdoor training like boot camps, body weight training, cross training, martial arts, dance, yoga and pilates."
"Many also get into endurance sports like practice running, cycling, swimming, trekking and others to train for marathon and other sports," he added.
Being regular is more important, he says.
"It's always good to try things that interest. If you like to dance, then include it into your workout. You could do it as a full workout or just as a warm-up. The idea is to create a good workout for yourself," he said.
"Do something that you love, just be regular with it to ensure results," added Shikhare, who believes that hard work, discipline and proper diet can get you the body you desire without harming you.
For him, a good diet is more about eating the right food at the right time.
"One should have small meals after regular intervals of two-and-half hours to three hours, cut down junk, spicy and oily food. Cut down on carbohydrates in the evening, include fruits in your diet and drink lot of water," he said.
While the duration of workout completely depends upon what are you training in and for, Shikhare suggests minimum of 45 minutes intense training for both men and women.
It is also important to know your heart rate zone before working out.
"It's very important to pay attention to your body while working out, if you are not comfortable doing something, don't do it. You should also make sure your trainer is well informed about your physical and medical conditions in advance to ensure safety," he said.
Shikhare, who has always considered training and discipline major parts of his life, says there are many institute which offer courses in the field of health and fitness.
"There's basic health, different kinds of workouts, the human anatomy, physiology and so many other things you have to learn when you choose to be a trainer or fitness consultant. You have to train yourself to understand it practically then implement it in your clients' workouts. It takes part science, art, innovation and discipline to make a fitness trainer," said the 27-year-old.
