10 killed in blast in Pakistani Shia mosque

At least 10 people were killed and at least 60 others were reported injured in three consecutive blasts in a Shia mosque in Peshawar city of Pakistan.

"Ten bodies and 40 wounded people have been brought to Hayatabad Medical Complex," Pakistan Today quoted a doctor, Mumtaz Marwat, as saying.

Witnesses said six men in Frontier Corps (FC) uniform entered the mosque during Friday prayers and hurled grenades at the security personnel deputed at the site.

One of the attackers also reportedly blew himself up. Intense firing also continued for several minutes inside the mosque.

Police and rescue workers reached the site and the injured were taken to nearby hospitals.

Frontier Corps personnel launched a sweeping operation in the mosque. Pakistan Army and the Anti-Terror Squad were also summoned to the site.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervaz Khattak were advised against visiting the site due to the ongoing security operation.

Last month, too, at least 50 people were killed in a similar attack on a Shia mosque in the southern city of Shikarpur.
