5.5 magnitude quake hits Japan
 
An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale jolted Japan Friday, authorities said.
 
 
 The quake hit off Iwate Prefecture in northeast Japan, but no tsunami alerts along the coast have been issued, Xinhua quoted the the Japan Meteorological Agency as saying.
 
 There are no immediate reports of damage and injuries.
