China rethinking its Taiwan strategy post Trump challenge

New Delhi, Dec 15: Post the turmoil created within China over US President elect Donald Trump’s direct call to Taiwan’s Prime Minister, a Chinese media report has now stated that  in order to protect its regional interests China could use force to unify Taiwan with China in the near future. The editorial advocated invoking the 2005, anti secession policy against Taiwan if it doesn’t recognise China’s authority.

“It might be time for the Chinese mainland to reformulate its Taiwan’s policy and use force as the main option because China cannot let USA dictate its rule of engagement in its own region”, Global Media report suggested.

Considered a proxy voice of the Government, the editorial is more or less like an unofficial warning to the US to back off from Chinese affairs even beyond its own borders

The trouble over Taiwan began when Donald Trump broke a four decade long protocol by taking a congratulatory call from Taiwan’s President and questioning the one China policy. Ever since the phone call Chinese media has been playing up the anti Taiwan and anti america rhetoric in its home media.

In a bid to get even with America, China could even offer help to their enemies while bringing up aggressive force across the South China belt along with in Taiwan. China has for long considered Taiwan as one of its renegade provinces and it is considered as a sensitive issue for all Chinese. Beijing in an earlier article too had warned US against treating China like a cash cow and should respect its internal matters without trying to meddle with them.
