The rich US financier Jeffrey Epstein, accused of trafficking underage women for sex, committed suicide in prison, revealed on Saturday by the US news media.
Epstein, who had been hobnobbing with politicians and celebrities over the years and was already a convicted sex offender, hung himself in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center and spotted his body around 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning, the New York Times and other media said, citing authorities.
In early July, the private equity director was refused bail after appearing in a New York court charged with one count of sex trafficking in minors and one count of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking in minors.
