Beijing, Dec 7: A gas explosion in central China Hubei, has killed seven coal mine workers, while four are still missing in the latest mine blast in China, the total top of the week from previous blasts now stands at 60. 

While rescuers are still trying to reach people stuck underground in the mines of Hubei Province air is being pumped inside the mines to aid rescue efforts. This was the third major mining accident within a week. 

China has numerous active mines since it is the world’s largest producer and consumer of coal. Despite various commitments made to ease working conditions for miners and upgraded safety measures, the coal mines remain one of the most dangerous work places in China. 

The recent series of accidents are creating a setback for safety procedures from being implemented and new guidelines along with reminders are coming through from the Government’s industrial safety watchdog.
