Clashes flare up after Tr

ME News Bureau: RAMALLAH: US President Donald Trump's acknowledgement of Jerusalem as Israel's capital ignited Palestinian demonstrations, clashes and a call for a new intifada (uprising) as worries developed of renewed bloodshed in the region.

Trump's declaration also provoked an almost widespread diplomatic repercussion that continued on Thursday, with renewed admonitions from Turkey, the European Union and Russia.

However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu heaped admiration on Trump, saying his name would now be linked with Jerusalem's lengthy history and advising other countries to follow his lead.

The Israeli military positioned hundreds of more troops to the occupied West Bank among insecurity over the outcome, while clashes between Palestinians and Israeli security forces exploded in several areas.

Hamas leader Ismail Haniya called for a new intifada, in a speech in Gaza City,

Demonstrations were widespread in West Bank cities, such as Ramallah, Hebron and Nablus, and also in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli military disseminated several hundred protesters with tear gas at a checkpoint at the entrance to Ramallah. The Palestinian Red Crescent reported dozens wounded due tear gas, rubber bullets and live fire in the West Bank.

Medical sources said three Palestinians were wounded east of the city of Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip.
