Kullu, Himachal Pradesh: The traditional Holi celebrations in Kullu commence with Basant Panchami and span 40 days. The Bairagi community actively participates in the festivities, which include daily renditions of Holi songs, particularly Brij Holi, in the valley. The celebrations are marked by the application of gulal.
The people of Bairagi community in Kullu have been following the tradition for more than 350 years on the lines of Ayodhya. The idol of Lord Raghunath was brought to Kullu from Ayodhya in the mid-17th century and since then the people of the Bairagi community, had been following this tradition, they added.
Holi is a popular and significant Hindu festival celebrated as the Festival of Colours, Love, and Spring. It celebrates the eternal and divine love of the deities Radha and Krishna. The day also signifies the triumph of good over evil, as it commemorates the victory of Vishnu as Narasimha over Hiranyakashipu.
