Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh): On Friday, during Dev Deepavali, the ghats of Kashi were illuminated with 51,000 diyas, drawing large crowds. The words “Batoge toh Katoge” were prominently displayed in the decorations. Tourist Sanya says, “The decorations here are very beautiful. Everyone watching must visit, as Diwali is celebrated here enthusiastically. Happy Diwali! I am enjoying it…”
The day that gods and goddesses come to Earth to bathe in the sacred Ganga is known as Dev Diwali.
In Hindu mythology, it is believed that on this sacred day of Dev Deepawali, all the gods and goddesses descended to Earth, gathering in the holy city of Varanasi to honour Lord Shiva’s victory over the demon Tripurasur. Dev Deepawali falls on the full moon of the Hindu month of Kartika, which takes place fifteen days after Diwali.
