Mumbai: Nearly 100 young Nadaswaram vidwans from all over the country marched in harmony from Sri Sankara Mattham in Matunga, Mumbai, to the Shanmukhananda Fine Arts and Sangeetha sabha, filling Sunday morning streets with divine music. They were presented with fellowships for three years to commemorate the 127th birth anniversary of Nadaswara Chakravarty Late T.N.Rajarathinam Pillai.
Prior to this, on the same day, noted Nadaswara Vidhwan Sangeetha Kala Vibhushan Thiruvizha Jayasankar from Alleppey district in Kerala, was conferred with the Sri Shanmukhananda Nadaswara Chakravarty T.N.Rajaratnam Pillai Lifetime Achievement award.
For over 75 years, Jayasankar has been the torchbearer of the celestial Nadaswaram in Kerala and beyond. He has performed all over Germany and France.
The Life Time achievement award carries a cash prize of Rs 2,5 lakhs, a lamp, a Shawl, among other mementoes. The fellowship carries a grant of Rs 1 lakh each for three years.
So far, 93 young artists have received the fellowship from the Sabha.
The awards were presented by Dr.V.Shankar, Sabha president.
