Mumbai: Rice symbolises life, richness, and prosperity, and blessings of Lord Shiva is a great lover of Abhishekams.
The Sri Sankara Mattham in Matunga, Mumbai, hosted a truly unique event-the Annabhishekam ritual. This ceremony, unlike any other, is a powerful invocation of Lord Shiva’s blessings.
On this auspicious day, the Shiva Lingam, a sacred symbol representing Lord Shiva’s divine energy, is bathed in the traditional Abhishekam items such as holy water, turmeric powder, sandalwood paste, milk, coconut water, curd and sacred ash.
Then, the idol is entirely covered with cooked rice mixed with ghee and dahi (curd) and decorated with an assortment of fruits and vegetables. At the end of the ritual, aarti is presented to Lord Shiva, and the covered rice and vegetables are distributed as Prasad, a blessed offering to everyone, fostering a sense of community and shared spirituality.
