I-T Department's Cyclothon Promotes Fitness, Green Mobility

Mumbai: In many Indian cities, Sundays are increasingly becoming synonymous with fitness and wellness routines. Seemingly, such concepts inspired the 166th Income-tax Day celebrations of the Income Tax Department, which organised a cyclothon today, not only demonstrating the value of physical and mental well-being, but also spreading awareness about environmental concerns in urban lifestyles.

Significantly, this morning, more than 400 people participated in the cyclothon, for a while, transforming the area around the Aaykar Bhawan at Churchgate in Mumbai to “Happy Streets” with cycle enthusiasts peddling away in glee.

Famous Bollywood star John Abraham, cricketer Shivam Dubey and veteran athlete Anju Bobby George were the main attractions of the cyclothon.

Moreover, the celebrities were pleased to see such an enthusiastic crowd participating in the event.  To start with, the principal chief commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai, Malathi R. Sridharan, joined the celebrities to flag off the cyclothon.

In her address, Malathi Sridharan appreciated the overwhelming participation and emphasised the importance of fitness in day-to-day lives. She appreciated the presence of eminent personalities and said that they were an inspiration for society; therefore, everybody should focus on fitness, influenced by them.

She further stated that the cyclothon was being organised to create awareness about the green initiative and promote environment-friendly modes of transport.

The officers of the I-T department participated with great fervour and enthusiasm. Sunil Bajpai, CCIT-5, Mumbai, Sanjay Agarwal, CCIT (International Taxation and Transfer Pricing), Anupama Anand,  CCIT-4, Mumbai, also graced the occasion.

The event ended on a high note. It was a day full of colours, laughter, talent, inspiration and a wonderful programme that was cherished by all.

Finally, it won’t be out of place to mention here that the cyclothon was also a nod to the popular FIT India movement of the government of India that propagates moving towards a more physically active lifestyle. This growing trend to break away from sedentary workweeks is a positive sign that the country is waking up to and bonding over shared health goals.
