Delhi: Devotees offered prayers and sought the blessings of Goddess Durga at CR Park on Vijayadashami. The unmissable feature is the sound of Bengali Dhak drums that are traditionally played with cane sticks in Durga Puja festivals, creating a festive atmosphere. Drummers who play the dhak are called dhakis and are central to the festive spirit of Durga Puja.
The feather decorations on the drums were once a common and traditional adornment. At some places, these adornments are still used, but now the feathers are made from artificial materials, adhering to environmental considerations and the protection of bird species
Watch the priest (pandit) perform aarti, chanting of prayers, the high-pitched trilling sound of ‘ulu dhwani’ produced by women, symbolising joy and blessings and the sound of a conch shell.
