2 foreign militants killed in gunfight in north Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 22:  Two foreign militants were killed in a gunfight with the security forces in north Kashmir's Bandipora on Tuesday, army official stated in an interview with the media.

Following specific information about militant presence in Bonikhan village, troops of the 13 Rashtriya Rifles and the special operations group (SOG) of the state police launched the operation after specific inputs were received by the intelligence agencies.

 As the surrounding troops closed in on the hiding militants, they opened fire triggering the encounter."The militants were engaged in a sustained gunfight till two of them were killed," said a senior police officer.

According to police sources both the slain militants are believed to be of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit. However, their exact identities are yet to be established," Police sources stated. The attack comes at a time when Pakistan is consistently trying to needle India on a daily bases with ceasefire violations and attempts at infiltrating more terrorists into India before the winter sets in.
