New Delhi, Dec 30: The upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa Uttrakhand and Manipur will see a massive deployment of CRPF, with the home ministry committing troops to all the election bound states this year to avoid disruptive polling especially in states such as Uttar Pradesh and Manipur.
While Election Commission had asked for a lakh plus troop deployment, most of which will be deployed in Uttar Pradesh which is one of the largest states in the state. At present 10,000 troops are deployed in Punjab and 5,000 in UP. IN Manipur close to 18,000 troops will be deployed and if required additional troops will be deployed if situation gets tense.
With security arrangements being setup between Election Commission and the Central Home Ministry, the dates for the poll bound states will be declared soon by January first week.
The Election Commission has already written to all the poll bound state chief secretaries seeking immediate action for the enforcement of model code of conduct once the dates are announced as early as Dec 31st or January 4th.
