New Delhi: Large gatherings in central Delhi's Mandi House area were barred before today's protest march organized by Jamia Millia Islamia University students against the amended Citizenship Act and the National Register of Citizens. Students today had scheduled a major march from Mandi House to Jantar Mantar, the designated protest area in the national capital, more than a week after a massive protest by Jamia students ended in violence-leading to police crackdown at the university. However, they have been denied permission by Delhi Police to hold the demonstration. Security has been heightened in the area.
