On Wednesday, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, whose party supported parliamentary amendments to the citizenship law, distanced Biju Janata Dal from the National Citizens ' Register, or NRC, which is next on top of the BJP-led national coalition's agenda.  Patnaik, who is on a four-day visit to the national capital Delhi, claimed his party had already made it clear that it would not support the Centre on the register plan for its citizens. Patnaik also launched an appeal against the new citizenship law against groups in Odisha to back down as the law did not affect Indian Muslims.
