BJP wins over 8 out of 10 corporations post BMC results

Mumbai, Feb 24: The Brihimanmubai Municipal Corporation election results have been a big boosted for BJP which went solo into the elections for the first time since their allies, Shiv Sena decided to part ways a couple of months back based on working differences between the two parties. Yesterday's election results show that BJP has sweeped across 8 out of 10 corporation seats in the BMC, the richest municipal bosy in Asia and one of the richest in the world as well.

The win is also important because while it showed BJP it could bring rresults on its own and without the help of a major regional party, it also brought to light the result of dabbing a bit too much in identity politics, as was chosen by the Shiv Sena under Uddhav Thackrey, which till recently had full control over the BMC since its tie up with BJP post 2014 elections. The spilt also saw a marked increase in the number of people who eventually turned up to cast their vote. From a measly turn out of 40 % to 55% in the present BMC polls.

It was thought by many that post the demonetisation move, BJP and mainly CM Devendra Fadnavis had the most to loose in the aftermath of a failed BMC election. This was further highlighted by the CM putting his work's credibility at stake which was critised by many within the party as well as being too brash. The early hours of polling did show that BJP had lost out to the mighty Shiv sainik roar in the elections, but it was only later in the day when the numbers started showing favor to the BJP that the cheer went out outside the party head office in Mumbai.

With the numbers in favour of BJP the landslide closing margin between SHiv Sena and BJP brought much enthusiasm to the party which had not really hoped for such close results. This despite the Shiv Sena carrying a high voltage anti incumbency propoganda in its strongholds. But none of this has prevented BJP from sweeping over 8 out of 10 corporations in the region.

The two parties are still short of claiming 114 seats to stake claim over mayorship and this leaves speculations open ended over what the future tie ups will be like even as BJP is hinting that there are no ideological differences between Shiv Sena and BJP and that they will talk to independents to cast their support with BJP to form the next majority in the BMC.
