BKC to be linked to flyover, tunnel

Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority has new plans to ease the traffic congestion between Kalanagar junction and BKC by constructing a new flyover and tunnel.
The 500-m flyover starts a little before the BKC junction and ends on the Western Express Highway a few metres ahead of the Kalanagar flyover towards the Bandra Worli Sea Link. Currently, traffic bootlenecks create a chaos at both the junctions during the peak office hours. The flyover will be used by those coming from the BWSL and Mahim towards BKC and back, the tunnel will help those heading form BKC towards the western suburbs.
MMRDA commissioner UPS Madan said that the projects willreduce traffic congestion at Kalanagar junction. The four flyovers are likely to be completed by 2016. The cost of the flyover is pegged at Rs 25-30crore and the tunnel’s project outlay is Rs 300 crore. The 2- lane tunnel will be around 1 km in length and will be used to exit at BKC. The tunnel is expected to be operational within three years.
