Heavy downpour since past two days in Mumbai has literally flooded the city’s low lying areas like Hindmata, Sion, Mahim junction, Kurla West and Chembur.
The BMC’s disaster management cell, ironically, maintains that the situation is well under their control despite the fact that people have to wade through waist-deep water in certain localities.
Even after reeling through enormous hardships in travelling due to water logging, Mumbaikars are praying for more showers to avoid water cuts.
The city is supplied potable water from the six odd lakes – which have reportedly not filled up yet. The catchment area of the lakes has suffered a 5-year low with the BMC preparing to increase the water cut to 30 per cent.
A high tide alert of waves as high as 4.36 metres was announced on Friday morning, warning citizens to avoid loitering near city coasts. However, the suburban trains are running smoothly in the city.
